The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Leather Supremacy landed in 2022 from The Dua Brand, part of their Inspired Expression collection. The name borrows from Altesse, a French title meaning highness, reserved for princes and princesses. The fragrance takes that regal reference and translates it into a composition built on an opening of cardamom and pink pepper, two spices that bring a dry, aromatic heat before anything else registers. The pink pepper adds a subtle rosy lift, almost berry-edged, while the cardamom leans greener and slightly dusty, creating an opening that feels both sharp and inviting. From there, leather carries the center stage, supported by rose, benzoin, and oakmoss.
What makes this composition structurally interesting is the weight balance between the spice opening and the sweet, resinous base. Cardamom and pink pepper bring a sharp aromatic heat that cuts through the warm gourmand foundation, preventing the vanilla-benzoin-tonka axis from sliding into pure confection. The vanilla in the base isn't the powdery, frosting-like variety; it reads darker, almost cured, with a boozy edge that pairs naturally with the tonka.
The evolution
The opening cracks open with pink pepper and cardamom, a dry, almost peppery heat that sits close to the skin but registers loud. Orange and clove sneak in beneath the spice, adding a faint sweetness without softening the edge. The orange brings a bright, almost candied zest, while the clove adds a smoky, almost medicinal warmth that deepens the spice accord beyond what the top notes initially suggest. As the composition moves forward, the leather steps in, backed by rose and jasmine, and the scent sheds its opening brightness. The florals here don't bloom, they brood. The jasmine reads indolic and heady rather than clean, and the rose carries a wine-stained depth that pulls the whole heart into darker territory. Benzoin and tonka bean take over as the composition matures, pushing the scent from spiced and sharp to warm and resinous.
Cultural impact
Leather Supremacy fits squarely within the tradition of leather-spice compositions that prioritize intensity and lasting power. The fragrance takes a classic structure, the kind built around an opening of bright spices, a heart anchored by leather and rose, and a base of benzoin, tonka, vanilla, and oakmoss, and renders it in an extrait de parfum format that emphasizes concentration over diffusion. The leather accord here reads worn and supple, the kind that suggests an heirloom jacket rather than a freshly tanned hide, and the spices in the opening give it an almost regal posture.
