The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Equilibrium 1.5 takes its cue from Ormonde Jayne's One.5, a composition that has earned a quiet following for its restraint and balance. The 1.5 in the name nods to its source, and everything else is The Dua Brand's own take on a luxury that doesn't gatekeep. Its 2018 release channels the spirit of a discovery you might make tucked between better-known names on a beauty floor, a scent that whispers rather than shouts. The original One.5 has long been admired for walking the line between fruit, florals, and wood without leaning too hard into any of them, and Equilibrium 1.5 treats that blueprint as a starting point rather than a script.
The composition earns its place by refusing to sit still in one lane. Lychee and blackcurrant bring a chilled, almost sparkling fruit note that reads modern, while magnolia and freesia anchor the florals in something fuller than the usual sheer petal-fest. Sandalwood, osmanthus, and amber do the quiet structural work, letting the fruit and florals feel rich rather than thin. The interplay between blackcurrant's tart edge and the lychei's softer, more candied sweetness gives the opening a layered character that doesn't flatten as the hours pass.
The evolution
The first fifteen minutes are a bright collision, lychee and wild berries hitting cold, almost like a chilled dessert. Mandarin and citron thread through with their own sharp brightness, keeping the fruit from veering into candy. There's a lift that reads more like a wine cooler than a perfume, and for those first few sprays the scent seems content to stay there. Then the florals arrive. Freesia and magnolia don't replace the fruit so much as slow it down, softening the edges until the whole thing feels like a single impression rather than separate notes. Honeysuckle and water lily add a watery sweetness that makes the mid-phase feel clean and skin-like, almost as if the florals are rising through a thin veil of fruit rather than replacing it. The shift happens around the two-hour mark, and it's the most interesting moment in the wear.
Cultural impact
Equilibrium 1.5 wears its position confidently, and the Extrait de Parfum concentration gives it a density that reads on the skin rather than from across a room. Wearers describe it as a fruity-floral-woody blend that delivers more depth than its tier suggests, with a structure that holds together from the first spray through the later hours. The fruit opening doesn't bowl you over so much as pull you in, and the way the florals and woods take over feels like a natural handover rather than a pivot.
