The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
A Rhythmic Café is The Dua Brand's inspired expression of Beat Café, a composition originally released by Jusbox, a house known for its unique concept of connecting music with fragrance. The 2022 release takes a composition built on cognac, black pepper, and tobacco, then renders it in Extrait de Parfum concentration. A Rhythmic Café belongs to the brand's Inspired Expression collection, a line focused on reinterpretation rather than original composition. Production was apparently discontinued, which limits how many bottles remain in circulation. The vegan-friendly formulation keeps the ingredient list clean without compromising the leather-tobacco weight that defines the scent.
What's interesting here is the material tension. Cognac sits at the top, a spirit note that reads warm and boozy from the first spray, but it's flanked by black pepper and coriander, two aromatics that keep the opening sharp and awake. The heart pulls in labdanum and benzoin, classic amber-building blocks that give the composition its honeyed backbone. Then comes the leather-tobacco pairing, a combination that anchors the composition with weight and warmth. Vetiver runs underneath, giving lift to the heavier notes, adding an earthy coolness that keeps the blend breathing.
The evolution
The cognac hits first, and it doesn't tiptoe. A boozy, almost fermented warmth, sharpened immediately by black pepper and the green, slightly citrusy edge of coriander. The first minutes feel like the opening round of a night out, warming, buzzing, social. As the cognac recedes, the heart takes over. Labdanum and benzoin build a warm amber cushion. Tobacco arrives next, dry and leafy rather than smoky, curling into the leather. The leather note here reads polished, more jacket than saddle, and it deepens the composition without making it heavy. The vetiver keeps the mid-phase from going sweet, adding a clean earthiness underneath. Eventually, the drydown settles into a quiet cedar and benzoin close. The pepper and cognac fade away, but the leather and tobacco linger, warm, close to skin, with a soft resinous sweetness underneath.
Cultural impact
A Rhythmic Café sits in an interesting space. For wearers, the appeal is straightforward: a cognac-tobacco-leather composition with the warmth and weight of a substantial evening fragrance. It reads as a cold-weather scent, the kind of thing you reach for when the evening calls for something heavier than citrus but more composed than straight vanilla. The combination of boozy cognac, dry tobacco, and polished leather places it firmly in the category of after-dark fragrances, the sort of scent that pairs well with wool coats and dim lighting.
