The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Melodia arrived in 2013, composed by Chris Maurice. The name means melody in Italian, and the fragrance performs like one, structured, emotional, built around a central tension. Bulgarian rose and cloves might seem an unexpected pairing at first glance. Rose brings richness and depth, a slightly syrupy sweetness that announces itself. Cloves contribute warmth and an unexpected edge that challenges expectations. Maurice brought them together anyway, letting the rose carry the composition while the spice added complexity and depth. The interplay between these notes creates a dynamic experience, each supporting the other throughout the wear.
What makes Melodia work is how the floral and the spicy don't cancel each other out. Bulgarian rose brings a rich, almost jam-like sweetness that can handle the warmth of clove without flinching. The violet and ylang-ylang in the heart add a powdery, tropical softness, ylang-ylang especially brings a creamy floralcy that rounds the spice. The real surprise is the base. Patchouli and sandalwood ground everything, but it's the Madagascar vanilla and white musk that make the drydown feel intimate rather than loud. This is a rose that knows when to step back.
The evolution
Melodia opens with intention. Bulgarian rose fills the space first, rich, slightly syrupy, the kind of rose that announces itself. Within minutes, clove arrives. The warmth is immediate, like someone just ground spices nearby. The rose doesn't disappear, it gets pushed to the background, letting the spice lead. After a while, violet and ylang-ylang move forward. The violet adds powder, the ylang-ylang adds a creamy softness that tempers the clove's edge. This is the heart of the fragrance, warm, powdery, slightly sweet. The Bulgarian rose fades entirely in the base, replaced by patchouli and sandalwood. Vanilla and white musk take over, turning the composition into something softer, warmer, intimate. The patchouli keeps it grounded. The vanilla keeps it sweet. The white musk keeps it close to the skin.
Cultural impact
The powdery violet and vanilla drydown make Melodia a distinctive choice for those seeking something that feels classical but carries an edge. The warm, powdery character with unexpected spice creates a niche that appeals to those who appreciate complexity in their fragrance wardrobe.
