The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Repetto introduced Eau Florale in April 2015 as a continuation of a fragrance collection that began with its debut Eau de Toilette in 2013, followed by the Eau de Parfum flanker in 2014. Where those earlier releases laid the groundwork for the house's olfactory identity, Eau Florale was conceived as a refined counterpoint, a study in restraint. The brief centered on translating the quality of a summer morning into something you could wear close to skin: not a performance, but a presence. Perfumers Juliette Karagueuzoglou and Nicolas Beaulieu approached the composition as architects of softness, crafting a scent that unfolds gently on the skin. The fragrance opens with bright citrus notes before revealing a soft floral heart, creating an experience that feels both fresh and intimate.
What makes this structure unusual is the placement of rose across multiple layers rather than confining it to the heart. It surfaces in the opening alongside grapefruit, persists through the heart alongside violet, and only gradually hands off to the base. The grapefruit performs the opposite function, brief and corrective, offering a sparkling counterpoint that prevents the composition from becoming overly sweet. This means the composition never crashes or resets. The rose doesn't need to reassert itself because nothing ever fully disappeared.
The evolution
The opening arrives with grapefruit and plum blossom, bright citrus immediately softened by floral sweetness. Neither overwhelms the other. As the composition develops, rose takes the lead, but it's not a solo. Violet introduces a powdery warmth that keeps it grounded, creating a middle phase that reads as both fresh and intimate. Cedar moves forward in the base, bringing a dry woodiness that anchors the florals. The overall character remains close to skin, never turning heady. The sillage is subtle throughout, a presence that lingers without announcing itself.
Cultural impact
Repetto's fragrance line extends the house's established ballet heritage into olfactory territory. The brand occupies a unique position between fashion and dance, and its fragrances reflect this dual identity. The house's philosophy of subtle, close-skin wear offers a different approach in perfumery. Each scent is crafted with the same attention to detail and elegance that defines the brand's broader creative output.
