Arabian Nights is a 2025 composition from Redolere Parfums, signed by perfumer Céline Herbette. The name sets the expectation: something storied, layered, unapologetically opulent. What arrives is more specific than the folklore suggests. This is an oriental-woody that opens with a cold splash of bergamot and grapefruit, then warms steadily as cognac settles into the heart alongside iris, rose, and jasmine. Oud and patchouli hold the floor underneath, with sandalwood and vanilla anchoring the drydown. Herbette builds the fragrance as a single arc, bright to dark, pour to drydown, without any of the genre's usual filler. It reads like a compact: every note earns its place, and the transitions feel considered rather than decorative.
What's interesting here is the structural honesty. The composition keeps the citrus-cognac thread running through every layer rather than letting it bloom once and disappear. The cognac isn't a novelty accord sitting on top waiting to fade. It's threaded through the iris and oud, softening the iris's powder without burying it. That move takes some nerve because cognac can easily overpower a floral heart, but here it warms the iris from underneath, giving it a rumpled, lived-in quality instead of the crisp suede effect you sometimes get from well-behaved iris accords.
The evolution

Cognac shows up early, warm and slightly sweet, and it doesn't leave. As the initial sharpness softens, the cognac is still steering, now moving through iris and a low rose note that adds depth without sweetness. The jasmine stays close, almost a rumor, hovering just at the edge of perception. When the woods take over, oud arrives not screechy or barnyard but rounded and resinous, the kind of oud that reads more like polished wood than animalic funk. Patchouli grounds it with an earthy dampness, while sandalwood brings a creamy softness that fills in the gaps.
