The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
MABRA PARFUMS operates from a modest atelier in Morocco, hand-crafting limited batches that draw from the region's rich olfactory heritage. Perfumer Brahim Mohamed conceived Sold Oud as part of the house's Les Collections Limitées line, a 2025 limited-edition exploration of rare materials. The brief was simple: capture the raw spirit of ancient oud forests. Mohamed, working with the house's regional inspiration and contemporary sensibility, chose to pair two powerful materials. Chinese and Thai oud form the resinous backbone, while frankincense from the Horn of Africa provides a sacred, smoky counterpoint.
The pairing of frankincense and oud was deliberate. Brahim Mohamed understands that both materials carry spiritual weight in Moroccan culture, used in traditional ceremonies and everyday life. Rather than dilute their power with supporting notes, he chose to let them speak directly. The result is a fragrance that respects the materials' integrity. Frankincense provides an aromatic, almost citrusy lift that prevents the oud from becoming heavy, while the oud grounds the incense's volatility. This is not minimalism as an aesthetic choice but minimalism as reverence.
The evolution
Sold Oud begins without ceremony. The absence of a traditional opening means the wearer is immediately transported to the heart of the scent's narrative. Frankincense announces itself first, its resinous smoke carrying a spiritual quality that evokes ancient trade routes and sacred rituals. As the minutes pass, the oud emerges from beneath, a deep, almost meditative woodiness that grounds the composition. The two materials sustain this dialogue for hours, with neither overpowering the other. By the time the drydown arrives, the frankincense has softened to a whisper of incense while the oud fades into a warm, skin-like presence.
Cultural impact
Since its 2025 debut, Sold Oud has become a quiet cult favorite among collectors who prize rare oud variations. Its limited‑run status and the combination of Chinese and Thai oud with dual frank incense have sparked discussion on niche forums, positioning it as a reference point for modern incense‑driven compositions. Wearers often cite its ability to evoke a sacred, timeless atmosphere, making it a go‑to for Intimate gatherings and ceremonial moments.
