The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Lattafa's Gourmand Collection exists for people who wear perfume the way they eat, without guilt, without hesitation, with genuine pleasure. Mallow Maddnes arrived in 2025, created by perfumer Nanako Ogi, as a study in how sweetness can feel luxurious and refined. The name itself is the brief. Marshmallow as a concept, pillowy, warm, melting on the tongue, translated into air. What Lattafa asked of Nanako Ogi wasn't just a candy accord. It was the feeling of indulgence made weightless. Something that sits close to the skin and rewards anyone who leans in. The opening bursts with bright strawberry sweetness, soft and syrupy, before the marshmallow emerges to soften everything into a gentle, cuddly haze.
What makes the structure interesting is how it refuses the obvious route. A fruity gourmand often burns bright and thin, strawberry opening, sweet heart, vanilla close, done. Mallow Maddnes threads freesia through the marshmallow heart, and that floral injection changes the texture entirely. It keeps the composition from flattening into mere frosting. The freesia doesn't announce itself loudly. It softens every edge it touches. The whipped cream in the base is the less predictable choice versus a straight vanilla or sandalwood anchor. Cream reads differently on skin, it holds a lactonic quality that genuine musk amplifies rather than competes with.
The evolution
First contact is raspberry. Not the candied raspberry of synthetic flavors, something rounder, brighter, with a slight tartness that pricks the sweetness just enough to keep it interesting. Strawberry follows within seconds, and the two together create a burst that feels like fruit at peak ripeness, just slightly crushed. The hand-off to the heart happens around twenty minutes in. The fruitiness doesn't disappear, it recedes, becoming the warmth underneath rather than the headline. Marshmallow rises to meet it, pillowy and sweet without the charred edges of toasting. Freesia appears sparingly, a floral counterpoint that prevents the whole thing from reading as pure confection. It lends a clean, slightly green undertone that keeps the sweetness grounded. By the second hour, the base takes over. Vanilla and whipped cream blend into something that clings, warm, creamy, intimate. Musk pushes through as the hours pass, giving the drydown a skin-close quality that never disappears entirely. On dry skin, expect four to five hours of that vanilla-cream trail.
Cultural impact
Gourmand fragrances have earned a permanent place in the modern fragrance wardrobe, appealing to those who want their scent to feel like a treat rather than just an accessory. Mallow Maddnes channels this spirit through a confectionery lens, delivering sweetness that feels approachable and genuine. The marshmallow heart provides a pillowy softness that sits close to the skin, while strawberry accents add a bright, fruity lift that keeps the composition from becoming heavy. As the fragrance settles, the sweetness deepens slightly, taking on a warm, powdery quality that lingers comfortably.
