The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Abaan arrived in 2022 as part of Lattafa's expanding unisex range, a fragrance designed to occupy the middle ground between bright citrus and warm woods. The name itself suggests something open, approachable, not a destination fragrance but a daily one. Built around bergamot and orange blossom at the top, it softens into jasmine at the heart before settling into a base of sandalwood, musk, and patchouli. No single note dominates. The structure prioritizes balance over spectacle, wearability over impact. This is a fragrance that works when you don't want to think about what to wear, when the scent should simply exist alongside you, not demand attention from the room.
What makes Abaan's structure interesting is the orange blossom appearing twice, once in the top notes as a bright citrus-floral opening, again in the heart as part of the jasmine-orange blossom pairing. Most fragrances treat orange blossom as a single-phase material. Here, it functions as both an introduction and a bridge, connecting the crisp bergamot opening to the warmer woody base. The patchouli doesn't announce itself loudly, it appears late, lending earthiness that prevents the white florals from becoming too heady. The musk acts as a skin-adjacent fixative, keeping the drydown close rather than projecting.
The evolution
The opening hits quickly, bergamot bright and clear for the first ten to fifteen minutes, orange blossom arriving almost immediately alongside it. By the half-hour mark, the jasmine enters the heart, and the composition shifts from crisp to creamy. The white florals dominate the next two to three hours, with sandalwood beginning to assert itself underneath. The patchouli doesn't fully arrive until the fourth hour, when the florals start to recede and the base becomes the primary experience. The drydown, sandalwood, musk, patchouli, persists for another three to four hours on most skin types. On fabric, the sandalwood can linger into the following day, faint but present. The arc isn't dramatic. It's composed. Each phase hands off to the next without drama, without gaps. That's the point.
Cultural impact
Abaan occupies a specific niche in the Lattafa lineup: the reliable everyday option. While houses like Khamrah get attention for their boldness, Abaan works quietly and consistently. Community reviews describe it as a scent that performs reliably across seasons, with wearers noting the 6-8 hour longevity and moderate sillage as key strengths. The citrus-white floral-woody structure makes it versatile, acceptable in professional settings, comfortable in casual ones. It's not a fragrance that sparks conversation, but it's one that people reach for when they want to smell good without thinking about it.
