The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
The All Over Body Spray format is where familiar fragrances go to live a little looser. For Vanilla | 28, Gabriela Chelariu translated that beloved EDP DNA into something you could reach for without ceremony, after a shower, mid-afternoon, over another scent. The number in the name is the number of iterations the formula underwent, a detail that sounds like trivia until you smell how intentional every layer feels. Twenty-eight attempts at vanilla that doesn't bore you. This is what happens when perfumers get stubborn about something good.
Two vanilla sources, Madagascar vanilla orchid and vanilla absolute, create that signature creamy-to-powdery arc that Kayali does better than most. Brazilian tonka bean pushes the sweetness forward without tipping into confectionery. Jasmine sounds like an odd addition until you realize it keeps the whole thing from going flat, adding a faint green sharpness that stops the cream from cloying. Then the base hits. Brown sugar, amberwood, musk, patchouli, the gourmand foundation keeps pulling against the sweetness, creating something with actual depth. This is vanilla that learned something from its time in the pod.
The evolution
The opening is bright. Vanilla orchid and jasmine arrive together, the jasmine adding a soft floral bite that keeps the sweetness from flattening immediately. Within 20 minutes, the tonka bean takes over and the scent shifts into its creamy heart, warm, soft, a little powdery. The jasmine doesn't disappear; it lingers at the edges, giving the vanilla something to lean against. By the second hour, the base notes have settled into skin-close warmth. Brown sugar and amberwood give it a darker, slightly resinous edge that the tonka bean alone couldn't provide. Musk and patchouli ground everything. Eight hours in, on fabric especially, you're left with a faint warm sweetness and a whisper of powder. The projection is intimate, you become it rather than wearing it. That's the design.
Cultural impact
Vanilla | 28 put Kayali on the map, and the All Over Body Spray brings that original magic into a more accessible, more casual format. The 2025 launch keeps the concept fresh for a new wave of fragrance wearers who discovered Kayali through the brand's Instagram presence and layering philosophy. It's become the version you reach for without thinking, that daily go-to that sits on a bathroom shelf next to the moisturizer. The vegan formulation also positions it for a fragrance market increasingly tuned into what goes into what they wear.
