The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Parlez-Moi d'Amour means 'talk to me of love', a French phrase that sounds like a question and a dare at the same time. John Galliano, the designer known for theatrical runway moments and couture drama, launched this fragrance in 2012 under the Eau Fraîche concentration, lighter than the original 2010 EDP. Aliénor Massenet composed this version with the intent to capture something more modern: the freshness of a first conversation, not the weight of a long relationship.
What makes this different from the original Parlez-Moi d'Amour is the absence of blueberry richness, here, the story is told through citrus and green. Grapefruit blossom brings a bright, almost bracing quality, while ginger flower adds clean heat without fire. The white currant and rose heart is deliberately delicate, avoiding the heavy romanticism of traditional florals. And the cypress absolute in the base is the unexpected move, an aromatic, coniferous note that gives this women's fragrance a cool, forest-green character rarely found in this category.
The evolution
The opening hits fast: grapefruit blossom is sharp, citrus-bright, almost bracing. Ginger flower rides underneath, adding warmth that prevents it from reading as mere cleaning product. Within ten minutes, the citrus softens and white currant arrives, a crisp, tart berry note that keeps things refreshing. The rose comes in quietly, not announcing itself, just adding sweetness that feels effortless rather than constructed. The drydown is where cypress and musk take over. The cypress brings an aromatic, slightly resinous quality that lingers closest to the skin. Musk softens everything, keeping the finish intimate rather than projecting. On most skin types, expect 4-6 hours of wear with moderate sillage, close enough to feel personal, not loud enough to fill a room.
Cultural impact
Parlez-Moi d'Amour Eau Fraîche occupies an interesting space: fresh enough for everyday wear, distinctive enough to avoid generic territory. Wearers describe it as the scent of someone who walks into a room and doesn't need to announce themselves, confident, modern, with a quiet edge that comes from the cypress in the base rather than the usual wood notes found in mainstream florals.
