The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Un Parc de Roses en Alabama draws its name from a place that exists somewhere between geography and imagination. Infiniment Coty Paris developed the fragrance with perfumer Dora Baghriche-Arnaud as part of the I Am Dusk chapter of their debut collection. The creative brief centered on rendering roses not as a conventional bouquet, but as a site where roses have been left undisturbed for a long stretch, the air thickening around them with resin and shadow. Rather than bright petals and dewy freshness, Baghriche-Arnaud composed toward something heavier: a rose that has settled into its own overgrowth, deepened by spice and smoke, carrying the stillness of late afternoon rather than the clarity of morning.
What sets this composition apart from the usual floral register is the way it treats rose as a participant in a spiced, oriental dialogue rather than the soloist it typically gets to be. Leather and myrrh appear in the note structure alongside rose, and the combination gives the flower a bruised, resinous quality from the start. The rose never reads as freshly cut. It arrives already pressed into something tactile, already folded into the heavier materials that surround it.
The evolution
The opening minutes are dense and resinous, with myrrh taking an early lead and leather rising underneath it like something warm and close to the body. Rose doesn't announce itself with a flourish. It seeps in gradually, darker than expected, reading more like crushed petal than fresh bloom, more like something preserved than something picked. As the composition settles into the first hour, the leather softens into something that begins to read more like skin-warmed fabric than a separate material, and the myrrh takes on a sweeter character at its edges. Through the middle hours the whole composition sits low on the chest, a quiet warm cloud that hovers at the neckline without demanding attention. The drydown brings the scent closer to the body, more intimate, the projection narrowing as the hours pass.
Cultural impact
Un Parc de Roses en Alabama stands as one of the more unconventional entries in Coty's high-concentration lineup, a composition that trades the bright, crowd-pleasing qualities of typical rose fragrances for something heavier and more contemplative. The scent rejects freshness and fruitiness in favor of density, leaning into leather and myrrh to reshape what a rose perfume can be. One reviewer noted wearing it specifically in colder weather, where the heavier base materials have room to develop and the warmth of layers against the skin brings out the resinous depth.
