The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Yuletide Carols arrived in 2022 as part of Damask Haus's Silent Night Collection, a seasonal suite of fragrances composed by perfumer Bri Beyer. The house operates as an independent perfumery with Beyer at the creative helm, releasing compositions that lean into seasonal and atmospheric concepts. Yuletide Carols fits squarely within that vision, built around a warmly spiced, resinous profile that captures the sensory mood of a winter gathering without relying on the obvious fir-tree accord. On skin, the fragrance moves through stages: a sparkling spiced opening of clove, juniper, and bitter orange; a roasted heart where chestnut softens against Peru balsam, rosewood, and a breath of rose; and a base of vanilla, musk, and amber that settles close to the body like the last note of a hymn.
What makes this composition worth a second look is the chestnut. Roasted chestnut in perfumery isn't common. It brings a toasted, almost edible warmth that sits between gourmand and wood. Pair that with clove's clean heat, Peru balsam's resinous depth, and palisander rosewood's quiet richness, and you get something that reads as holiday-adjacent without resorting to the usual pine-and-cinnamon script. The juniper adds an unexpected herbal lift at the edges. Vanilla doesn't dominate. It anchors.
The evolution
The first thirty minutes are a meeting of clove and juniper. Sharp, almost medicinal, the kind of opening that makes someone ask what you're wearing before the scent has fully formed. The bitter orange threads through that opening too, bright and slightly pithy, lifting the spice before the heavier notes settle in. Then the chestnut arrives, roasted and warm, and the composition shifts from spice to something softer. Peru balsam and rosewood pull the warmth downward, giving the heart a resinous weight that doesn't feel heavy, while a single rose petal weaves through the middle, adding a faint floral sweetness that keeps the blend from reading as purely gourmand. By the two-hour mark, the clove has settled, the chestnut has mellowed, and what remains is a close-to-skin blend of vanilla, amber, musk, and residual balsam.
Cultural impact
Yuletide Carols earns its warmth from roasted chestnut and Peru balsam, a pairing that gives the composition its steady, resinous glow. The clove stays bright through the opening, lending a clean spiced edge that keeps the blend from sliding into something merely sweet, while the juniper adds a faint coolness behind it, almost like a window cracked open on a cold evening. As the fragrance settles, rosewood rounds out the heart alongside a quiet thread of rose, and the base of vanilla, amber, and musk softens everything into a close, skin-warmed finish.
