A house, in its own words
Creative director Dennis Werner founded D:SOL MMXVI after years of moving between Berlin’s urban rhythm and the island of Mallorca. Werner’s childhood summers on Mallorca introduced him to wild rosemary, thyme and sea‑salted air, impressions he later translated into olfactory sketches. In 2020 the brand launched its first collection, presenting three fragrances—TERRAM, HERBES and TESORO—that each referenced a distinct Mediterranean atmosphere. Marie Urban Le Febvre composed TERRAM that year, describing it as an ode to the sun’s majesty. The following seasons saw the addition of Sombra (2023) and its winter counterpart Sombra 24 (2024), expanding the narrative to include twilight and nocturnal garden scents. 2024 also brought Cistus, a tribute to the resilient rockrose shrub, while 2025 introduced Ládano and ISLETA, the latter created by perfumer Michael Nordstrand and marketed as a “companion to stillness.” Over the six‑year span the house has kept its releases limited, allowing each scent to develop a dedicated following among collectors who value authenticity over volume. The brand’s evolution reflects a steady dialogue between Werner’s Berlin sensibility and the Mediterranean terroir that shaped his early memories. D:SOL MMXVI approaches perfumery as a dialogue between place and perception. The house believes that a fragrance should act as a quiet backdrop, a skin scent that amplifies the wearer’s own chemistry rather than overwhelming it. Its statements on the website stress a commitment to “exploring the deeper atmosphere of the region,” a claim echoed in third‑party reviews that note the brand’s focus on subtle light, green foliage and the feeling of open space. The creative process begins with field research on Mallorca, where the team records the scent of sun‑baked stone, herb gardens and sea breezes. Those impressions travel to the studio, where perfumers such as Michael Nordstrand and Marie Urban Le Febvre translate them into accords that respect the original environment. The brand also emphasizes sustainability, sourcing botanicals from local growers who practice low‑impact harvesting, and limiting batch sizes to preserve ingredient integrity.
