The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Named for Gabrielle Chanel herself. Olivier Polge worked with the Parfum concentration for this 2022 Extrait, allowing the white florals to reach a depth and presence that the original EDP could not achieve. The richer concentration gives jasmine, ylang-ylang, and orange blossom room to unfold more fully, building layered warmth as the fragrance settles. It was released as the most precious expression of a fragrance already defined by its creator's namesake.
The Grasse extraction process captures the flower's character more completely. Orange blossom, jasmine, and ylang-ylang each have room to announce themselves before sandalwood and vanilla absolute draw everything together into something warmer, closer, more intimate than the opening suggested. The extraction preserves the nuance of the petals, allowing the floral heart to breathe rather than compress into a single impression.
The evolution
The first spray hits bright and unapologetic. Tuberose leads at full strength, but the orange blossom and jasmine are already threading through, adding bright, sparkling dimensions. Ylang-ylang contributes a green-fruity accent that keeps the florals from feeling heavy before they've even started. By the second hour, the composition settles. The sandalwood emerges, creamy and warm, while the vanilla absolute wraps around everything like a slow exhale. The drydown is where the Parfum earns its name, skin holds a soft warmth that the opening never promised. Clean, but with memory.
Cultural impact
Winning the Fragrance Foundation's Women's Luxury award in 2023 elevated Gabrielle Parfum into critical conversations. The fragrance stands as a full expression of what a Chanel Extrait can be, not a variation on an existing theme, but the complete statement.
