The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
The original Declaration opened with cardamom and fresh woods. The 2008 limited edition intensified that foundation. This version distilled the structure to its core materials, letting each element speak with greater clarity. The cardamom retains its aromatic bite, bright and slightly citrusy, while the woods provide a clean, elevated backdrop. It's a study in focus, each note amplified to create something more concentrated than its predecessor. The blend achieves a richness that feels both familiar and renewed, a deeper expression of the original's intent without losing the character that made it work.
Immortelle is the tell. In perfumery, it's not a common material, its golden, honeyed, slightly herbal character divides opinion. But used well, it has a particular quality. Its presence in a composition demands attention and holds the attention once given. The smoky warmth of teakwood adds a contrasting dimension, bringing dry weight and a woody foundation that complements the immortelle's brighter qualities. Together, these materials create a composition that asks for patience, one that rewards those who let it settle and unfold over time rather than expecting everything at once.
The evolution
The opening is black pepper, clean, immediate, a slight sting. That sharpness gives way as the immortelle takes its turn, moving from bright herbal lift into something warmer, honeyed, almost resinous. The teakwood arrives to support what comes before it, adding dry weight and warmth to the composition. As time passes, the fragrance settles closer to the skin. The projection becomes more restrained. The teakwood drydown lingers, present in its quieter register, the honeyed warmth of the immortelle continuing beneath it in a soft, lasting base.
Cultural impact
The limited edition has become harder to find. Apparently discontinued after launch, it circulates now among those who remember and those who wish they had. The immortelle keeps it from disappearing entirely. In the secondary market, a bottle commands attention precisely because the fragrance itself demands something of the wearer. Its character has not softened with time; if anything, the rarity has sharpened the appeal of what it actually smells like.
