The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Benoist Lapouza created Vie Eteree in 2024, part of the Incanti Poetici collection. The name suggests something eternal, but Lapouza reached for something more immediate, the particular brightness of Italian bergamot and citron, grounded by basil and cardamom, warmed by cedarwood. Not escape into nostalgia. Presence in the now.
The Incanti Poetici collection translates poetic, timeless impressions into fragrance. Vie Eteree, 'eternal life', captures that ambition without leaning into antiquity. Instead: the green clarity of basil, the warmth of cardamom, the clean depth of ambroxan. A composition built for the present tense.
The evolution
The top notes hit sharp and fast. Citron, bergamot, pink pepper, a bright opening that reads almost electric before softening. This phase lasts about 30 minutes, then hands off to the heart. The basil-cardamom pairing arrives quietly. Not a dramatic shift, more like a transition from sharp sunlight to filtered warmth through a garden trellis. The basil keeps it green and slightly bitter; the cardamom adds a soft spice that prevents any medicinal feel. This middle chapter holds for two to three hours. Then the base. Cashmeran wraps the skin in something soft, almost plush. Beneath it, ambroxan adds a mineral warmth, the ghost of sea salt, clean driftwood. The drydown isn't a dramatic reveal. It's the moment the fragrance stops performing and becomes yours alone.
Cultural impact
Vie Eteree has earned a following among wearers who value understated elegance over performance. Reviews describe it as clean, woody, and quietly refined, the kind of scent that doesn't announce itself but earns attention at close range. It's been called perfect for someone who wants assured refinement without boldness, and a frequent gift choice for those who appreciate the Cucinelli aesthetic.
