A house, in its own words
Astrophil & Stella emerged in the Italian niche scene around 2015, when a group of perfumers and designers decided to translate a romantic myth – the love between a mortal and a star – into olfactory form. Early releases such as Amberlievable (2020) introduced the brand’s penchant for pairing luminous top notes with grounding bases, a formula that would become a signature. In 2021 the house launched two pivotal fragrances: Paris Chéri, a bright, floral‑citrus composition, and Nabati, a green, aromatic scent that highlighted the brand’s willingness to explore both modern and classic accords. The following year, Madame M (2022) paid homage to a historic figure, while Shanghai 1930 (2023) evoked a specific time and place, demonstrating the brand’s narrative depth. 2024 saw the arrival of In Extremis, a complex blend that mixed smoky incense with bright citrus, earning praise from independent reviewers for its layered structure. 2025 marked a prolific period with three releases – Mon Santal, Chromodoro and Nabati Oud – each showcasing a different facet of the house’s material palette, from creamy sandalwood to metallic amber notes. Throughout its growth, Astrophil & Stella has maintained a small‑batch production model, limiting each launch to a few thousand units and reinforcing its status as a collector’s brand. The house has also cultivated relationships with celebrated perfumers such as Luca Maffei, Chris Maurice, Cécile Zarokian and Bertrand Duchaufour, whose contributions have broadened the creative vocabulary of the label. While the brand remains privately held, its consistent presence at niche fragrance fairs across Europe and Asia signals a steady expansion beyond its Italian roots. The creative vision at Astrophil & Stella rests on a simple premise: scent should capture an emotion that is difficult to name. The brand describes each fragrance as a meeting point between terrestrial elements and celestial light, a concept that guides both ingredient selection and narrative framing. Rather than following seasonal trends, the house lets each perfume develop its own story, often anchored in a specific memory, place or myth. Collaboration sits at the heart of this approach; the label invites perfumers with distinct voices to co‑author scents, allowing a dialogue between the creator’s signature style and the house’s thematic focus. Sustainability also informs the philosophy: sourcing ingredients from certified farms, minimizing waste in the bottling process, and opting for recyclable packaging whenever possible. Transparency is another pillar – the brand publishes ingredient lists on its website, inviting consumers to understand the balance of natural extracts, synthetics and aroma chemicals that give each composition its depth. By treating fragrance as a narrative medium rather than a commodity, Astrophil & Stella aims to foster a personal connection between wearer and scent, encouraging moments of reflection that feel both intimate and expansive.
