Heritage
A house, in its own words
Agarthi Scent Core emerged as a fragrance project in 2022, when Barbara Loddo established the brand in Italy. The name itself carries deliberate mythological weight. In traditions ranging from European esoteric texts to Eastern spiritual teachings, Agarthi refers to a hidden kingdom said to exist deep within the earth, accessible only through remote and inaccessible passages. Loddo built the brand around this concept, creating perfumes that function as sensory maps to imaginary underground realms. The brand operates with a vertically integrated structure, with Loddo serving simultaneously as owner, manufacturer, founder, and distributor. This structure gives her direct oversight of every stage from formulation to final product. Since launching, Agarthi has released multiple fragrances across several years, with a particularly active period in 2023 that brought Burning Core, Floating Lands, Waterways Spell, and Hidden Shores to market. The brand continued expanding its catalog into 2025 with Magnetic Maze and Magnetic Magma. Rather than relying on external perfumers, the brand reportedly works with a diverse group of collaborators who contribute to the olfactory identity of each release. The Italian origin situates Agarthi within a country with deep historical ties to perfume craft, though the brand's thematic focus on subterranean mythology sets it apart from traditional Italian fragrance houses. Agarthi approaches perfumery as a form of mythological cartography. The brand rejects conventional fragrance families in favor of creating scents that map imaginary territories beneath the earth. Each release draws from the concept of Agarthi as a hidden world, translating geological and elemental imagery into olfactory narratives. The philosophy prioritizes sensory storytelling over ingredient prestige or perfumer celebrity. Loddo and her collaborators work toward creating fragrances that function as portals, inviting wearers to imagine what lies beneath familiar landscapes. The brand's conceptual framework suggests that fragrance can access places that other senses cannot reach. Rather than describing perfumes through standard olfactory notes, Agarthi frames each release in terms of the journey it proposes, the hidden geography it evokes, and the elemental forces at play. This approach treats perfume as narrative infrastructure, a vehicle for exploring mythic spaces that exist in collective imagination rather than physical reality. The brand operates on the premise that the earth's interior represents an untapped territory for olfactory expression, one that conventional perfumery has largely ignored.
