The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Adopt Parfums launched Pamplemousse Grenade in 2013. The name says everything: grapefruit and pomegranate, two fruits that carry symbolism across cultures, prosperity, vitality. The house built it in their signature style: accessible, well-crafted. The grapefruit opens with a clean, bright tartness that hits quickly and cleanly. The pomegranate brings a deeper, wine-like tartness alongside its sweeter fruit notes. Together they create something that reads as bright without being shallow. The white florals, peony and lily of the valley, do the quiet work of softening everything that comes before. They're not trying to dominate. They're there to remind you that underneath the citrus, there's warmth.
What Pamplemousse Grenade offers is a composition where the top notes carry the weight. Grapefruit brings the bitter edge; pomegranate brings the sweet-tart depth. Together, they create something that reads as bright without being shallow. The white florals, peony and lily of the valley, do the quiet work of softening everything that comes before. They're not trying to dominate. They're there to remind you that underneath the citrus, there's warmth.
The evolution
The opening hits fast, grapefruit cutting through sharply, pomegranate following close behind with a deeper, almost wine-like tartness. The citrus doesn't disappear, it recedes, becoming a background warmth rather than the headline. Then the florals arrive, not all at once but gradually, peony first, soft and delicate, lily of the valley slipping in beside it. Two hours in, the composition has settled. The peony softens, the lily of the valley gains presence, and the base notes begin their slow reveal. Musk and tonka bean work together here, not dramatic but present. The drydown is where the composition finds its full expression. The sweetness of the tonka bean becomes more apparent, woven together with the musk to create a warm, lingering foundation that carries the fragrance through its final hours.
Cultural impact
Pamplemousse Grenade has occupied a comfortable position in the fruity-floral category since its launch, not a statement fragrance, but a reliable one. It sits alongside classics in the genre, offering a sweetness that keeps it from reading as overly simple. The sillage is moderate, making it suitable for everyday wear rather than occasions that call for dramatic presence. Wearers find it works well for those who want a pleasant, lingering presence that doesn't overpower a room.
