    Master Perfumer

    Ricardo Ramos

Ricardo Ramos arrived in Europe in 2004 with a singular vision: to bring Colombian sensory sensibility to the rarefied world of artistic perfumery. Born in Colombia, Ramos initially built his career in fashion design before discovering that scent offered a more intimate language for creative expression. His partnership with perfumer Jorge Lee shaped his early understanding of fragrance composition, but Ramos increasingly pursued independent creation. Settling in Granada, Spain, he became the first perfumer of Hispanic American origin to establish himself as an independent creator of artistic perfumery on European soil. Over more than two decades, Ramos has developed a body of work that draws from his Latin American heritage while embracing the traditions of European niche perfumery. His background in fashion design informs how he constructs fragrance narratives, treating each creation as one would a couture garment, built from the inside out with intentional structure and purpose.

    How Ricardo composes

Ramos gravitates toward opulent, characterful compositions that refuse to disappear into the background. Oriental structures appear frequently in his work, as seen in Cristina la Veneno, an assertive unisex fragrance that takes its name from Spanish cultural iconography and wraps the wearer in warm spice and resin. His Granada atelier allows him to work with both European perfume traditions and materials that carry memories of South American landscapes. Ramos demonstrates particular skill in balancing richness with clarity, ensuring that even his most concentrated creations maintain a legible structure. He favors materials with narrative weight over those chosen for mere trend compliance, building fragrances that reward sustained attention rather than offering instant gratification that fades quickly.

    Philosophy

    What drives Ricardo

Ramos approaches fragrance as a designer first, insisting he does not draw on paper but instead transforms abstract inputs into olfactory language. He speaks of working always on commission, responding to briefs and concepts that challenge him to translate ideas into scent. This collaborative mindset distinguishes his practice from perfumers who begin with ingredient selection. For Ramos, the brief comes first, and his skill lies in finding the precise aromatic vocabulary to express it. He views each fragrance as a communication, a way of speaking to the wearer through materials rather than words. His work resists easy categorization precisely because he allows the commission to dictate form rather than imposing a house style. This designerly approach keeps his practice genuinely responsive and unpredictable.
