The Story
Why it exists.
Alberto Morillas built Flora Gorgeous Jasmine around the jasmine sambac flower, a warm and rich variety that brings depth to the composition. The house had already explored the flower in Gucci Bloom, bringing gardenia into Alessandro Michele's vision. But this chapter wanted something different. Not the cool white gardenia, but the distinctive character of jasmine sambac, with its deeper, more complex profile. Morillas worked with the Flora collection's heritage, the iconic 1966 pattern by Vittorio Accornero, and reimagined it through a lens of natural beauty. The mandarin, the magnolia, the black pepper, all chosen to complement the jasmine and create a vibrant, luminous effect.

The Beginning
What makes this different from the dozen jasmine fragrances already in rotation? The combination. Jasmine sambac absolute isn't just 'jasmine', it's deeper, warmer, with an almost honeyed edge that Calabrian bergamot and Italian mandarin keep from going too heavy. The black pepper isn't there to spice things up, it's there to keep the sweetness honest. And the Australian sandalwood in the base isn't just a support, it's what makes the jasmine linger instead of fading. Sandalwood holds white florals in place like nothing else, letting the jasmine stay creamy and close to skin long after the top notes have surrendered.
The Evolution
The first thirty minutes are all citrus and light. Bergamot and mandarin arrive together, bright, sparkling, with just enough black pepper to give the opening a pulse. Then the jasmine enters. Not gradually, all at once, taking over, turning the scent from fresh to radiant. The magnolia softens it, makes it feel less sharp, more creamy. This is the phase that defines the fragrance: warm, joyful, unapologetically floral. By hour two, the sandalwood and benzoin take over. The jasmine doesn't disappear, it deepens, becomes something skin-like and intimate. Patchouli adds a quiet earthiness that stops the whole thing from going too sweet. The final drydown, four to six hours in, is sandalwood and benzoin, warm, resinous, close. It stays close to skin, the kind of sillage that someone standing beside you will notice before you announce yourself.
Cultural Impact
Flora Gorgeous Jasmine arrived as part of Gucci's continued exploration of the Flora universe. Morillas, who had already shaped Gucci Bloom, brought his experience with the collection to this new chapter. The campaign, starring Miley Cyrus, presented the fragrance as an expression of open happiness, emphasizing its vibrant floral character without pretense. The scent attracted people drawn to the house's aesthetic, finding in the fragrance a reflection of the brand's fashion identity expressed through scent.
The House
Italy · Est. 1921
Since 1921, Gucci has woven Italian craftsmanship into every facet of its creative identity. The House's venture into perfumery began in 1974, extending its Florentine heritage into olfactory form. Gucci fragrances capture the House's bold spirit: a collision of opulence and edge, tradition and provocation. From Gucci Envy's 1994 debut to the 2017 launch of Gucci Bloom under Alberto Morillas, each scent carries the House's signature audacity. Gucci Guilty Absolute (2025) continues this lineage, marrying intensity with unmistakable elegance.

This fragrance sounds like a golden afternoon, warm, unhurried, radiating without demanding attention. The jasmine heart is the main voice, but the bergamot and sandalwood keep it grounded, prevent it from floating away into something ephemeral. Think: late summer, open windows, a song that makes you smile without knowing why.
