The Story
Why it exists.
The name pins it to a specific strip of coastline, South of 5th, the stretch where Miami's oceanfront turns residential, quieter, more lived-in. Adamo Parfum built the Costiera Collection around the idea of translating landscape into scent, and South Of 5th is the collection's most direct flight into place. The perfumer Hamid Merati-Kashani was given a brief: capture the moment when Miami's heat surrenders to evening, not the party, not the neon, but the actual atmospheric shift. Ocean spray. Golden light. The air turning from punishing to perfect. The challenge was making an aquatic fragrance that didn't stay cold. That owned the warmth as much as the salt.

The Beginning
Marine notes alone give you cold. Salt without heat is just mineral. The trick here is that the top doesn't just open with sea breeze, it opens with sea breeze meeting the heat of a Miami afternoon. Neroli and pink pepper add a citrus-bright spark that keeps the opening from staying clinical. Siberian stone pine brings a smoky, resinous quality that most aquatics skip entirely, it's the note that bridges the cool opening to the warm drydown. Meanwhile, the white florals in the heart (damask rose, tuberose) aren't shy or watery. They're warm, almost creamy, sitting on a base of Haitian vetiver, Indonesian patchouli, and Virginia cedar that smells like the end of a long day by the water.
The Evolution
The opening announces itself with a sharp mineral burst, marine accord carrying the salt, neroli carrying the flowers. Pink pepper flickers underneath, adding a slight heat that keeps the top from reading as clinical. Siberian pine arrives within the first few minutes, and that's the signal: this isn't staying aquatic and cold. The pine adds a smoky, resinous depth that starts the shift toward warmth. By the mid-point, damask rose and tuberose have fully bloomed, softened by nutmeg's quiet spice. The florals do not dominate, they layer, adding sweetness and weight to the mineral foundation underneath. Vetiver takes over the drydown, and this is where the fragrance earns its reputation. Haitian vetiver is earthy, slightly smoky, and almost saline, it echoes the marine opening while grounding everything in a dry, woody warmth. Indonesian patchouli and Virginia cedar follow, adding resin and soft wood. The praline appears in the final hour, barely there, a sweet whisper before the fragrance settles into a close, skin-warm presence.
Cultural Impact
As part of Adamo's Costiera Collection, South Of 5th occupies a specific position in the niche aquatic category, not the clean, soapy aquatic of mainstream fragrances, but a more complex composition that lets warmth and wood complicate the salt. The fougere structure gives it an aromatic backbone that most aquatics lack, and the use of Siberian pine and Haitian vetiver adds resinous, smoky depth that separates it from the typical beach-fragrance territory. Wearers describe it as the scent of someone who doesn't need to explain where they've been.
The House
Italy · Est. 2023
Adamo Parfum is an Italian niche fragrance house that entered the market in 2023. Based in Italy, the brand creates scent narratives that draw on historic perfume traditions while speaking in a contemporary voice. The sound of salt catching light. A track that opens clean and cool, like mineral air, then lets warmth build underneath without losing the horizon. Warm synths meet a steady beat, something that breathes like the ocean without mimicking it. The feeling of 6 p.m. by the water when the heat finally breaks and the light goes gold.
