The Story
Why it exists.
In 2021 Graham & Pott turned its textile legacy toward the windswept steppes of the Andes, naming the parfum after the guanaco, a hardy camelid that roams those high plains. The house wanted to translate that rugged yet graceful landscape into a scent that feels like a fabric woven from sunlight and altitude. Peach supplies the bright heat of the desert mornings, while Indian lotus and coconut echo the airy grasses and distant coastal breezes that the animal might glimpse from the ridge.

The Beginning
In 2021 Graham & Pott turned its textile legacy toward the windswept steppes of the Andes, naming the parfum after the guanaco, a hardy camelid that roams those high plains. The house wanted to translate that rugged yet graceful landscape into a scent that feels like a fabric woven from sunlight and altitude. Peach supplies the bright heat of the desert mornings, while Indian lotus and coconut echo the airy grasses and distant coastal breezes that the animal might glimpse from the ridge.
The combination of fruit, lotus and coconut is unusual for a niche fragrance, creating a fresh‑green opening that never feels synthetic. Adding orris root and Grasse violet gives the heart a powdery elegance reminiscent of fine linen, while the subtle orchid note adds a fleeting floral sparkle. The base’s Bourbon vanilla, musk and Cambodian oud anchor the composition, delivering a warm, lingering finish that mirrors the tactile quality of the brand’s textile roots.
The Evolution
The first ten minutes of Guanaco are dominated by a bright peach that feels like a ripe sunrise, instantly softened by the cool, watery green of Indian lotus and the creamy slip of coconut, a trio that paints a breezy high‑plain tableau. Around the 15‑minute mark the heart emerges: Grasse violet and Bulgarian rose intertwine, while orris root adds a dry, creamy backbone and a whisper of Ecuadorian Cattleya orchid introduces a delicate, almost translucent floral nuance, giving the scent a refined, powdery texture. As the fragrance settles after half an hour, the base asserts itself; warm Bourbon vanilla spreads a sweet amber veil, smooth musk rounds the trail, and a restrained note of Cambodian oud provides a subtle, smoky wood that lingers like a soft ember on the skin, keeping the scent present but unobtrusive for the remainder of the day.
Cultural Impact
Since its 2021 debut, Guanaco has been embraced by niche collectors who appreciate its Andean inspiration and the house’s textile‑to‑scent narrative. The blend of fruit, lotus and warm oud positions it alongside the brand’s other South‑American‑themed releases, earning mentions in specialty blogs for its balanced elegance and for translating a high‑plain landscape into a modern, gender‑fluid perfume.
