The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
In 2024, Zara partnered with perfumer Jerome Epinette to create a fragrance that would capture the brand's fashion-forward sensibility in olfactory form. Working with fragrance house Puig, Epinette approached the brief with a specific mandate: build a composition around violet leaf, a material prized for its green, almost metallic freshness. The result was Vibrant Leather and Violet Elixir, a scent that treats violet leaf not as an accent but as a foundational element. Suede was selected as its counterpoint, providing the warmth and tactility necessary to balance violet leaf's sharp botanical character.
The choice to center violet leaf reflects a specific philosophy: treat bold botanical materials with the same respect afforded to traditional noble notes. Violet leaf offers a crispness that mimics certain floral aspects without actually being a floral in the classical sense, its green, slightly vegetable character providing something genuinely distinctive. Paired with suede, the combination captures a specific sensory target: the smell of new leather goods adjacent to fresh-cut plant material. This olfactory image carries associations with both luxury and vitality, which aligns with Zara's positioning of sophisticated materials presented in an accessible context.
The evolution
The scent begins without preamble, violet leaf asserting its presence immediately alongside suede's quiet warmth. Over the first hour, violet leaf dominates, projecting crisp green notes that carry a subtle metallic shimmer. Suede maintains a supporting role, its textural quality softening what might otherwise feel too sharp. From hours two through four, the two materials reach equilibrium. Violet leaf remains present but gentles, while suede becomes more apparent, its characteristic warmth emerging as the botanical edge blunted slightly. By the fourth hour and beyond, the composition settles into a quiet, sustained version of its initial statement. Violet leaf and suede remain recognizable but diminish in concert.
Cultural impact
Since its 2024 launch, the fragrance has been noted for delivering a green‑leathery experience that feels both contemporary and accessible. Wearers compare its vibe to classic leather icons like Dior Fahrenheit, yet appreciate the fresh violet leaf twist that sets it apart in everyday wardrobes.
