Spicebomb Infrared emerged from Viktor & Rolf’s desire to push the original Spicebomb concept into a hotter, more sensual direction. In 2021 the trio of perfumers, Carlos Benaïm, Nicolas Beaulieu and Jean‑Christophe Hérault, were tasked with translating a “torrid explosion of eroticism” into scent, using pepper, chilli berries and cinnamon as the core narrative. The result is a masculine ode that fuses bold spice with a sweet-fruity edge, echoing the brand’s couture-like theatricality.

The Beginning
Spicebomb Infrared emerged from Viktor & Rolf’s desire to push the original Spicebomb concept into a hotter, more sensual direction. In 2021 the trio of perfumers, Carlos Benaïm, Nicolas Beaulieu and Jean‑Christophe Hérault, were tasked with translating a “torrid explosion of eroticism” into scent, using pepper, chilli berries and cinnamon as the core narrative. The result is a masculine ode that fuses bold spice with a sweet-fruity edge, echoing the brand’s couture-like theatricality.
The formulation leans on red-fruit accords to give the opening a juicy brightness that softens the initial pepper sting, while saffron adds a metallic, almost luminous quality. By pairing cinnamon leaf with red pepper, the heart maintains heat without overwhelming, and a whisper of lavender tempers the blaze. The base’s tobacco and benzoin provide a smoky, sweet foundation, anchored by amberwood and cedarwood for depth and lingering warmth.
The Evolution
At spray, the red-fruit burst erupts like a sunrise over a cityscape, instantly grabbing attention. Within ten minutes the pink pepper sharpens the edge, and saffron’s golden thread weaves through, creating a bright, spicy spark. As the heart settles, cinnamon leaf spreads a warm, bakery-like comfort while red pepper keeps the pulse racing; a faint lavender note appears, smoothing the heat. By the half-hour mark the tobacco emerges, smoky and rich, hugging the skin. Benzoin softens the smoke with a vanilla-kiss, while amberwood and cedarwood lay a woody, lingering ember that can be sensed on the collar long after the night ends, delivering an 8-10 hour presence that refuses to fade quietly.
Cultural Impact
Since its 2021 debut, Spicebomb Infrared has become a polarising favourite among spice lovers, praised for its bold opening and lasting tobacco trail. Wearers often cite its ability to stand out in crowded venues, while some note the intensity can dominate quieter settings. It sits alongside the original Spicebomb as the hotter sibling, reinforcing Viktor & Rolf’s reputation for daring, couture-inspired men’s fragrances.
