The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Pomme Mind Control arrived in 2023 as part of The Dua Brand's Inspired Hybrid collection. The official description calls for raising a glass to the good life, and the composition reads like a translation of that gesture into olfactory terms. Pomme Mind Control leans into that thesis with conviction: it borrows the boozy, woody template familiar from high-end amber compositions and reconstructs it around oak, brandy, vanilla, and green apple. The green apple introduces a crisp, slightly tart edge right at the top, bright and dewy, before the warmth of the composition takes hold. As the boozy warmth settles, the oak and brandy pull together into something that feels less like a cocktail and more like the atmosphere around one.
What makes Pomme Mind Control distinctive is its restraint inside a typically maximalist genre. Oak and brandy compositions often lean heavy, but the green apple opening injects a crispness that keeps the blend from collapsing into sweetness. Ambrette does the structural work here, providing a musky, slightly wine-like transparency that bridges the fruity top with the resinous base. Labdanum and vanilla supply the amber warmth, while rose adds a powdery lift that prevents the composition from feeling monolithic. The result is a woody oriental that drinks like a well-balanced cocktail rather than straight liquor.
The evolution
The first thirty minutes belong to green apple and ambrette, a tart and slightly wine-like sparkle that cuts through any residual sweetness from the get-go. That opening has a fresh, almost bruised quality to it, like fruit that's been left just long enough to deepen in character. Then the composition tips into its heart: brandy and oak arrive with the warm, slightly boozy depth of a glass that's been held for a while, while labdanum and vanilla build a resinous backbone underneath. The brandy here reads more like atmosphere than like an ingredient, a suggestion of warmth rather than a sharp alcoholic edge. Rose drifts through the middle, powdery and subtle, never competing with the warmer notes, adding a quiet floral murmur that keeps the composition from skewing too heavy.
Cultural impact
Pomme Mind Control sits comfortably within the boozy-woody family of compositions that have become a familiar corner of the fragrance world, a category built around oak, brandy, and amber warmth. The scent wears that lineage openly, and it leans into the appeal of a warm, resinous base that has become something of a signature style. What gives Pomme Mind Control its own character is the green apple at the top, a note that cuts through the amber comfort with something bright and almost sharp.
