A house, in its own words
Richouli was founded in Vienna, Austria, in late 2019, a relatively young entry into the European fragrance landscape. The brand's home is the Austrian capital, but its perfumes are manufactured in France, placing it within the network of established French production houses responsible for many independent European labels. In 2022, Richouli launched its first collection of fragrances, a coordinated debut that introduced multiple scents simultaneously rather than a staggered rollout. This approach signaled an early ambition to establish a recognizable signature range rather than building piece by piece. The brand has since grown its international footprint through select distribution partnerships, including representation by D'or Prestige in the USA. As a young house, Richouli does not yet carry the multi-generational history of legacy perfume houses, but its Vienna origin and French manufacturing give it a distinctive dual identity within the contemporary niche fragrance scene. The choice of Vienna as a creative base reflects the city's long association with arts, music, and design, while the decision to produce in France leverages the country's deep infrastructure of perfumery expertise, raw material access, and regulatory knowledge. Richouli articulates a creative vision rooted in cultural convergence. The brand describes its approach as a blend of Orient and Occident, a deliberate positioning that informs both ingredient selection and narrative framing. Rather than treating Eastern and Western perfumery traditions as separate categories, Richouli seeks to combine elements of both into unified compositions. This cross-cultural lens is evident in scent names like Arabia and Blessed, which evoke varied geographic and spiritual associations. The house appears to view fragrance as a vehicle for storytelling, with each launch functioning as a self-contained narrative rather than a standalone product. This perspective aligns with a broader trend in niche perfumery, where smaller houses compete by offering distinct conceptual worlds rather than mass-market appeal. Richouli's Vienna base reinforces this artistic framing: the city has historically served as a cultural bridge between European traditions and wider influences, a sensibility the brand seems to draw upon in shaping its creative direction.
