Heritage
A house, in its own words
The origins of Profumi di Polignano trace to the narrow streets, white-stone piazzas, and sea-scented air of Polignano a Mare, a cliffside town in the Bari province of southern Italy known for its deep coves and turquoise waters. According to available sources, the house was founded by an individual with roots in the local area, motivated by what is described as a passion for perfume and the desire to translate the atmosphere of this particular place into scent. The first fragrance, Magnifico, launched in 2018 and reportedly carried the signature of perfumer Arturetto. The brand grew gradually through the following years, with a significant expansion occurring in 2022 when multiple Extrait de Parfum versions of existing fragrances were introduced, suggesting a shift toward higher concentration across the line. Crema Limone arrived in both standard and Extrait forms in 2024, reflecting an ongoing refinement of the collection. The most recent addition, Tiramisù Extrait de Parfum, appeared in 2025, a fragrance clearly inspired by the beloved Italian dessert and, by extension, the culinary heritage of the region. The brand draws on the emotional geography of Polignano a Mare, its coastal light, its ancient architecture, and the experience of navigating its steep, winding passages as touchstones for creative direction.
Profumi di Polignano approaches fragrance as a medium for storytelling, specifically the story of a place and its sensory identity. Rather than pursuing abstract concepts or trend-driven compositions, the house aims to capture identifiable experiences: the cool mineral air of a sea cave, the bright acidity of a lemon grove, the warmth of sun-dried earth. This approach positions each fragrance as a discrete narrative rather than a general mood. The brand operates within the tradition of artistic perfumery, which prioritizes creative independence over commercial considerations and emphasizes the perfumer's vision as the driving force behind each release. There is a deliberate connection to the landscape of Apulia, both in raw material choices and in the thematic content of the fragrances. The name of the house itself functions as a geographic anchor, linking every product to its origin. The philosophy also extends to how the collection is presented: descriptions evoke specific scenes and sensations rather than using generic luxury language, inviting the wearer to associate each scent with a concrete memory or environment.
