The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Nathalie Lorson created Play It Sexy in 2023, and the name says everything. Playboy has always stood for confident self-expression without taking itself too seriously, that knowing wink, not the grand gesture. Play It Sexy translates that philosophy into a fruity-floral oriental vanilla that opens bright and tart, then settles into something warm and intimate. It's the fragrance for people who don't need to shout to be heard.
The jasmine tea at the heart is what makes this work. It's dewy and green without the typical indolic punch you'd expect from jasmine, bridging the citrus opening and warm vanilla base with something that feels natural rather than heavy. Osmanthus brings a subtle apricot sweetness while licorice adds an unexpected anise twist that catches people off guard and makes them lean in closer. This is where the fragrance becomes more than just pleasant. It becomes interesting.
The evolution
The grapefruit opens sharp and tart, with mandarin orange softening the edges just enough. Pink pepper adds a delicate spice that disappears quickly. By 20 minutes, the jasmine tea takes over, that dewy, green quality that's dewy rather than indolic. The osmanthus and licorice arrive around the 45-minute mark, adding sweetness and that unexpected anise character that lingers longer than anything else. The vanilla, patchouli, sandalwood, and tonka settle in around the 90-minute mark, wrapping everything in warmth that stays close to the skin. On most people, it lasts 3-4 hours with moderate sillage, not a room-filler, but the kind of scent someone notices when they're standing close.
Cultural impact
Play It Sexy finds its place among everyday-wear fragrances, not a statement scent, but one that rewards those nearby. The Playboy approach: confident self-expression without pretense. Bright and tart opening, warm and intimate drydown. Built for the people standing close to you.
