The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Nathalie Feisthauer designed Decadent Memories for Perfumology. The composition centers on a trio of berries: cherry, blueberry, and blackcurrant, each playing a distinct role in the fragrance's architecture. Cherry provides the initial impression, bright and present from the first spray. Blackcurrant contributes a tart, slightly austere quality that prevents the overall effect from becoming one-dimensional. Blueberry fills the middle ground, its natural sweetness softened by the other fruits' nuances. The combination reads as intentional rather than accidental, a carefully calibrated fruit accord that prioritizes clarity and depth over simple sweetness. Perfumology approached the project with the goal of creating a gourmand fragrance where the fruit elements feel primary, not incidental.
The tonka bean absolute plays a significant role in the composition's development. Its warm, slightly nutty character introduces a dimension that moves the fragrance beyond simple fruit sweetness. Vanilla absolute accompanies this, adding a creamy, enveloping quality that supports the tonka without overwhelming it. The roasted apple note appears early and remains present throughout the fragrance's evolution. This note is cooked rather than fresh, bringing a jammy, slightly caramelized quality that feels more like something from a kitchen than an orchard.
The evolution
The opening of Decadent Memories presents a generous fruit accord immediately. Cherry leads the composition, with blackcurrant and blueberry supporting from the first moments. Roasted apple appears from the start, adding warmth that rounds out the sharper fruit edges. The overall effect is rich and abundant, a fruit-forward introduction that announces itself clearly. As the fragrance develops, the sweet fruit character begins to shift. Tonka bean and vanilla absolute become more apparent, introducing a pastry-like quality that transforms the initial fruit market impression into something closer to a bakery case. The transition feels natural rather than abrupt, with the fruit notes gradually receding as the warmer elements take prominence. The drydown introduces sandalwood and cedar, bringing an aromatic counterweight to the earlier sweetness.
Cultural impact
Decadent Memories occupies a position within the gourmand fragrance category that emphasizes fruit-forward compositions. The fragrance features blueberry and cherry as primary notes, supported by blackcurrant and a roasted apple accord. This approach distinguishes it from mass-market fruit fragrances that typically rely on simpler, more direct fruit simulation. The composition prioritizes depth and nuance, with each note contributing to a layered effect rather than standing alone. Wearers familiar with the fragrance describe it as sophisticated within its category, appreciating the way the fruit elements interact rather than compete.
