Heritage
A house, in its own words
Ormaie emerged in late 2018 when Baptiste Bouygues, after years of crafting scents for luxury houses, partnered with his mother, Marie‑Lise Jonak, to launch a family‑run maison. Their shared background—Baptiste’s technical training at Louis Vuitton and Givenchy, and Marie‑Lise’s consulting work for major fragrance brands—provided a foundation of industry expertise. The first collection, released in 2018, featured four extracts: L'ivrée Bleue, Le Passant, 28°, and Toi Toi Toi. These early releases set a tone of high concentration and natural ingredient focus. In 2022, the house introduced Tableau Parisien, a fragrance that referenced the city’s artistic heritage and marked the brand’s first major expansion beyond its initial quartet. The following year, Ormaie added Yvonne Extrait de Parfum (2024) and Toi Toi Toi Extrait (2024), demonstrating a commitment to revisiting earlier concepts with refined formulations. 2025 saw the launch of two new extracts, 32° and L'Ivrée Nuit, both positioned as seasonal statements that highlight the house’s evolving olfactory palette. Throughout its development, Ormaie has remained independent, operating from a modest workshop in Paris where the founders oversee blending, testing, and bottling. The brand’s growth has been documented in several independent profiles, including Metal Magazine and a short piece in The New York Times, confirming its status as a niche player that balances artisanal methods with the scale needed for limited‑edition releases.
Ormaie’s creative vision rests on three pillars: natural material integrity, narrative depth, and concentration. The founders argue that a fragrance should tell a story without relying on synthetic shortcuts, so they source ingredients that can stand on their own merit. Marie‑Lise Jonak describes the process as a dialogue between top, heart, and base notes, each chosen for its own character rather than merely to support a predefined theme. Baptiste Bouygues adds that the house treats each extract as a "chapter" in a larger literary work, allowing collectors to follow an evolving plot across releases. Sustainability also informs their decisions; the brand prefers ingredients harvested with minimal environmental impact and works with suppliers who can trace the origin of raw materials. Rather than chasing trends, Ormaie aims to create scents that feel timeless, inviting wearers to revisit them over years and notice subtle shifts as the perfume ages on the skin. This philosophy is reflected in their choice to release only extrait de parfum concentrations, which preserve the purity of the raw components and extend the fragrance’s lifespan.
