The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Caldo Gourmand emerged from Officina delle Essenze under Maurizio Lembo's direction. Lembo built it around Bourbon vanilla and caramel, materials chosen for their deep, enveloping quality. Coconut milk was the unexpected move, adding a tropical richness that makes the composition feel more complete. Bergamot opens the top with a clean, bright quality that introduces the sweetness in a measured way. The overall effect is warm and inviting, with each material contributing to a fragrance that feels cohesive and intentional rather than scattered. The interplay between these notes creates something that feels both comforting and sophisticated, a balance that takes careful formulation to achieve.
Bergamot lifts the opening so the composition starts with clarity before the heart takes over. Caramel, Bourbon vanilla, and coconut milk form the center of the fragrance, creating a sweet but not overwhelming presence. Musk and woody notes make up the base, giving the sweetness something to rest against. The transition from the brighter opening to the warmer heart is smooth, and the woody elements in the base keep everything from feeling airborne. The result is a fragrance that feels grounded and intimate, with a progression that unfolds naturally over time rather than all at once.
The evolution
Bergamot opens sharp and citrus-bright. Then the caramel steps forward, followed quickly by Bourbon vanilla. The coconut milk smooths the edges so nothing reads as synthetic or overly candy-like. This phase lasts a significant portion of the wear time, with warm, edible sweetness that sits close to the skin. The drydown arrives as a softening rather than a dramatic shift. Musk and woody notes become more apparent, and the whole composition becomes less a fragrance and more a warmth on skin. The next morning there is faint vanilla remaining, with clean skin and no harsh edges.
Cultural impact
Caldo Gourmand occupies a specific corner of the vanilla fragrance category, distinguished by its coconut milk note. The sweetness is present but not aggressive, giving it a more nuanced character than straightforward gourmand interpretations. It wears as a close companion rather than a room announcement, suited to those who prefer their fragrances intimate rather than announced.
