The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Francoise Caron created Angel La Part des Anges in 2007 as a luxurious special edition, a collector's bottle distilling the essence of the legendary Angel into a rare 10 ml of pure extrait. The name itself, 'The Share of Angels', evokes what's left behind when something extraordinary is consumed: a trace, a warmth, a memory that lingers. This wasn't a flanker or a flanker's flank. It was an heiress, appointed to carry the family name forward in concentrated form. Caron worked within the Angel canon, incorporating the house's signature notes of patchouli and ethyl maltol while introducing Cognac, a spirit note that brings boozy warmth and woody depth to the composition.
What makes this composition distinctive is its positioning within the Mugler vocabulary. Angel is known for its patchouli presence and ethyl maltol sweetness, a fragrance with strong sillage. La Part des Anges takes that same DNA and presents it in concentrated form. The Cognac note, boozy, warm, woody, exists alongside the sugary fruit and amber rather than replacing them. The result is a fragrance that retains the characteristic Angel sweetness while adding spirit-driven depth.
The evolution
The opening arrives warm and immediate, amber that feels almost tangible, like the glow from a nearby candle rather than across the room. The Cognac asserts itself quickly, bringing a boozy, woody quality that exists alongside the sugary fruit lurking underneath. The ethyl maltol sweetness and the spirit note share the composition, each contributing to an opening that feels both rich and layered. As time passes, the heart develops with amber becoming more prominent, creating a warm foundation that extends the initial impression. The sillage that characterized the opening becomes more focused as the fragrance evolves, the sweetness and spirit note intertwining more closely. In the later stages, the Cognac's woody base becomes more apparent as the sweeter top notes fade, and the amber remains present, becoming warmer as it melds with skin chemistry.
Cultural impact
La Part des Anges occupies a specific position in the Mugler canon as a concentrated interpretation of the house's most famous creation. Angel established the house's approach to gourmand fragrance, combining sweet and rich notes in a distinctive way. This 2007 limited edition distills that approach into a rare 10 ml collector's bottle, offering the core elements of Angel in concentrated extrait form. The discontinuation of the edition has made it notable among fragrance collectors.
