Why it exists.
The beginning
Mediterranean Coast arrived in 2018 from Monotheme Venezia. Instead of one botanical in focus, the composition braids green tea, fig leaf, and jasmine into a portrait of a coastline rather than a single plant. Fig leaf carries the greenery, cutting a vegetal shape through the heart of the scent. Green tea lifts the top with its cool, tannic dryness, the kind that feels closer to a steeped leaf than to any fruit. Jasmine threads through the middle, soft and creamy where the other two notes stay sharp. The whole thing smells like walking a path cut into coastal scrub, where tea plants grow wild next to fig trees and jasmine scrambles over stone walls. It reads as a place, and once you put it on, it holds onto that sense of place even as it warms against your skin.
Fig leaf is the centerpiece here. It smells vegetal and slightly bitter, closer to a stem torn from a tree than a ripe fruit, and that bitterness runs through almost every phase of the wear. Green tea lifts the opening with a clean, almost mineral dryness, the scent of leaves steeped in hot water and left to cool. Jasmine arrives not as a heady floral but as a whisper, giving the composition its creamy middle. The accords confirm it: green, fruity, fresh, creamy, spicy. None of them dominate. Together they sketch a coastline at noon.
The evolution
On skin, the first fifteen minutes belong to green tea. It opens dry, almost tannic, the way steeped leaves cool before you add anything. Fig leaf arrives next, pushing the composition greener and greener until the opening reads more like crushed stems than anything sweet. Around the thirty-minute mark, jasmine finally surfaces, and the dry, herbal opening softens into something rounder, almost milky. The transition from brittle green to creamy floral is the most interesting part of the wear, and it happens gradually enough that you register each note as it cedes the lead. By hour four, the jasmine has faded into skin warmth and the fig leaf returns, now sweetened slightly by whatever the jasmine left behind. That fig-and-jasmine handoff keeps the late stages feeling less like a drydown and more like a slow reflection of everything that came before.
Cultural impact
Mediterranean Coast occupies a recognizable space among fig fragrances, drawing on the green, vegetal character of fig leaf rather than the sweeter, lactonic profiles that dominate much of the category. Wearers tend to reach for it in transitional weather, when something green and creamy reads better than a full gourmand or a heavy floral. The green tea opening gives the composition a crispness that distinguishes it from other fig releases in the house's own catalog, including Noble Fig and Italian Summer Fig.
