Why it exists.
The beginning
Francis Kurkdjian released Aqua Celestia in 2017 as part of his Aqua collection. The name itself, celestial water, points toward a particular intention: a fragrance built around the sensation of water in its clearest, most weightless form. Kurkdjian used this release to explore the cooler, greener end of his palette, working with notes that feel lifted and bright rather than dense or resinous. The composition opens with English peppermint and lime, two ingredients that snap the air into focus the moment they hit skin. As the hours pass, French blackcurrant bud and Provençal mimosa settle in underneath, carrying a softer floral texture that keeps the brightness from feeling thin or fleeting.
What makes the structure interesting is how closely the notes talk to each other. English peppermint and key lime carry the opening, sharp and electric against the cooler facets of the composition. As the mint begins to settle, French blackcurrant bud absolute threads through, bringing a slightly raw, almost leafy greenness that keeps the citrus from reading as one-dimensional.
