The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Lorga Parfums describes Oud Yssée as an oriental dance between the Oud and the Rose, two materials pulled from opposite ends of perfumery's spectrum, brought together by the milky warmth of sandalwood. Smoky, animalic oud is paired against rose's quiet elegance, anchored by a milk coffee opening that refuses to be decorative. Perfumer Camille Leguay composed this fragrance with those materials at its core: bitter coffee, warm rose absolute, and a base of sandalwood that wraps around the moreassertive notes. The brand's own copy speaks of supple and carnal movements, suggesting sensuality without ornamentation, grace that comes from weight rather than lightness. Oud Yssée doesn't try to feel expensive. It tries to feel present.
The milk coffee opening is what makes Oud Yssee unusual. Not a sweet latte accord, not vanilla-laced cream, but an actual bitter, smoky coffee note that arrives before anything softens it. That initial bite creates an unexpected tension with what follows. The rose arrives slowly, almost reluctantly, as if it's been waiting for the right moment to enter. Cinnamon adds warmth to the floral heart, creating a quiet spice that blends with the rose rather than competing against it.
The evolution
The opening arrives sharp and unapologetic. Milk coffee, bitter, smoky, closer to cold brew than anything creamy. No sweetness to soften the blow. This phase persists before the composition begins to shift. The handoff belongs to the rose. Not a loud rose, not a petaly splash, an absolute that moves slow and deliberate, finding its place beside the coffee rather than replacing it. Cinnamon adds warmth. Immortelle brings a quality that keeps everything grounded, prevents it from floating into something too elegant. As the dry down develops, the Laotian oud takes its place in the composition. Sandalwood and vanilla wrap around the oud, creating a base that deepens rather than fades. The fragrance lingers on fabric into the next morning, leaving traces that remind you it was there. This is a fragrance that stays close.
Cultural impact
Oud Yssee launched in 2019 as part of Lorga Parfums initial catalog. The milk coffee and smoky oud combination offers something distinct in the oud fragrance landscape, presenting a more introspective character rather than following sweet, accessible conventions. The fragrance layers bitter coffee against warm rose and animalic oud, with sandalwood providing the creamy warmth that ties these elements together. Its composition reflects an approach to oud that emphasizes depth and complexity, creating a scent that rewards close attention rather than making an immediate room-filling statement.
