The story of La Prairie begins in 1931 when Dr. Paul Lacroix, a Swiss physician with a background in dermatology, opened a small laboratory on the banks of Lake Zurich. His early work focused on treating skin conditions with ingredients sourced from the Alpine environment, a practice that set a tone of scientific rigor and respect for nature. By the 1950s the brand had introduced its first anti‑aging creams, positioning itself as a pioneer in the emerging field of cosmetic dermatology. In 2004 La Prairie entered the fragrance arena with the Silver Rain collection, a series of scents that echo the brand’s Alpine heritage through fresh, mineral‑driven accords. The most significant corporate shift occurred in 2010 when German conglomerate Beiersdorf AG acquired La Prairie, providing the brand with expanded distribution while preserving its Swiss research facilities. Since then, La Prairie has continued to innovate, releasing the Platinum Rare line in 2020 and reinforcing its commitment to marrying cutting‑edge science with luxurious sensorial experiences. Throughout its history the brand has remained anchored in Zurich, where a dedicated research laboratory still tests each ingredient for purity, stability and performance, ensuring that every product reflects the original promise made by Dr. Lacroix nearly a century ago.
