The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Alexis Dadier built Verte Euphorie around a single idea: laughter. Not the polite kind, the burst that escapes when something catches you off guard. The brief was a detox juice, something raw and alive, but he pushed it further. Raw carrot, with its green tops still attached, became the metaphor. Mixed with the opulence of the orange tree, blood orange, and grapefruit, it becomes something else entirely. A touch of bitterness and sparkling highlights are added. A touch of madness. That's the phrase Dadier used, and you can feel it in the composition: controlled enough to wear, wild enough to remember. The citrus brightens immediately upon application, giving way to something earthier and more grounded as the top notes settle, revealing the careful craft underneath.
Carrot is unusual in perfumery, it brings a quality that most fragrance houses avoid in mainstream compositions. Here, it works as a bridge between the citrus top and the powdery base, adding depth without heaviness. Gentiana, a bitter root used in digestifs and amaros, reinforces that bitter edge, creating contrast against the sweet orange. The result is a fragrance that threads bitterness through sweetness throughout its arc, never letting the citrus get too soft, never letting the powdery drydown get too sweet. It's a careful balance that most fresh fragrances don't attempt.
The evolution
The opening hits bright and effervescent, blood orange and grapefruit burst forth. Petitgrain adds a slightly bitter, green citrus nuance that keeps the top from being just sweet. Within twenty minutes, the carrot emerges, bringing an unexpected quality that shifts the composition from fruity to herbal. The powdery quality builds as the citrus settles, and by the second hour, white musk takes over, clean, soft, intimate. White cedar adds a quiet woody warmth underneath. The drydown stays close to the skin, lingering for several hours before fading into a whisper of clean musk and cedar. The progression moves smoothly from bright citrus through herbal middle notes and into a warm, subtle base that invites you to lean in closer.
Cultural impact
Verte Euphorie stands apart in the citrus category, offering something that feels both accessible and distinctive. The carrot note gives it a point of difference that sets it apart from typical fresh fragrances. The overall composition remains approachable while maintaining the originality that makes niche fragrances worth exploring. It works well across different contexts, from casual daytime wear to more considered occasions, with a presence that feels intentional rather than overwhelming. The fragrance invites conversation about what citrus can be when taken in an unexpected direction.
