Heritage
A house, in its own words
Mona Maine de Biran launched Kierin in the spring of 2018 after years of observing the fragrance market from a consumer perspective. She wanted an indie house that could speak directly to the multicultural pulse of New York, a city she describes as both a laboratory and a gallery for scent. The first collection arrived later that year, featuring 10 a.m. Flirt, Sunday Brunch, Nitro Noir, and Santal Sky. These early releases emphasized simplicity of composition while retaining a narrative edge. In 2020 the brand introduced Rose Ink, a floral that quickly became a reference point for its ability to capture a single flower without overwhelming sweetness. The following year Pier NY arrived, a marine‑inspired fragrance that referenced the city’s waterfront districts. 2022 saw the launch of ScentXone, a scent built around a minimalist amber accord, and 2023 the follow‑up ScentXme, which layered the same amber with subtle spice. 2024 added Santal Park, a woody reinterpretation of the original Santal Sky, while 2025 brought Café Kiss, a coffee‑infused gourmand that nods to the city’s café culture. Throughout its growth, Kierin has kept production in the United States, partnering with local manufacturers to maintain control over quality and to reduce carbon footprint. The brand’s milestones include a pop‑up in Chinatown in 2019, a collaboration with a New York street artist for limited‑edition packaging in 2021, and a feature in Independent magazine’s 2022 “Indie Fragrance Houses to Watch” list. Each step reflects a commitment to staying rooted in the city’s evolving narrative while expanding its olfactory vocabulary. Kierin’s creative vision centers on translating place into perfume. Mona Maine de Biran describes the brand’s purpose as turning the city’s visual and auditory cues into scent, allowing wearers to carry a fragment of a street, a skyline, or a moment. The house values authenticity, so every fragrance is built around a single, recognizable idea rather than a crowded blend. Sustainability appears in the sourcing choices; the brand prefers ingredients that can be traced to responsible farms and works with suppliers who practice fair labor. Transparency is another pillar: product pages list the main accords and the origin of key notes. Kierin also embraces collaboration, inviting artists and musicians to interpret a scent’s mood through visual or auditory projects. This interdisciplinary approach reinforces the belief that fragrance belongs in the broader cultural conversation, not just the perfume aisle. By keeping the price accessible, the house aims to democratize niche perfumery, inviting a wider audience to explore complex aromas without the barrier of luxury pricing.
