The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Apurikotto emerged from Jinkoh Store's 2018 mission to revive ancient incense rituals with a modern twist. In 2023 perfumer Marius Pană set out to capture the fleeting sweetness of a ripe apricot against the house's signature resinous backdrop. The result is a limited edition extrait that marries a sun-drenched stone fruit with materials borrowed from perfumery's most treasured lexicon.
The choice to build around ambergris, apricot, and oud reflects a desire to create something that feels both ancient and immediate. Ambergris brings a connection to maritime traditions and the slow transformation of natural materials. Apricot offers a link to the here and now, a fruitiness that reads as modern and accessible. Oud grounds the composition in its resinous, contemplative nature. Tog ether, they form an accord that rewards patience. The wearer who allows the scent to develop over hours will find that the apricot does not disappear but transforms, taking on depth from the ambergris and structure from the oud.
The evolution
The journey begins with apricot asserting itself immediately. There is no preamble, no citrus spark or herbal opening to precede it. Instead, the fruit arrives with full conviction, its natural sweetness balanced by a gentle tartness. Ambergris joins within the first minutes, not as a supporter but as an equal, adding a marine, almost oceanic warmth that amplifies the apricot's ripeness. Oud enters as the structural element, its smoky woodiness tempering the fruit's brightness and the ambergris's animalic edge. The three notes reach an equilibrium that feels intentional, each one elevated by the others rather than competing for attention. As time passes, the composition settles into a drydown that preserves the apricot's presence while allowing the ambergris to become more Intimate, more skin-close, and the oud to fade into a lasting smoky memory.
Cultural impact
Since its 2023 debut, Apurikotto has sparked conversation among niche collectors for its daring blend of a single fruit with heavy oud. Wearers note its ability to bridge fresh and animalic worlds, making it a go‑to for those who appreciate incense‑inspired scents without the heaviness of traditional oud‑only compositions. It’s often mentioned alongside Jinkoh’s Sunset series as a modern reinterpretation of ancient rituals.
