Sonia Constant established Ella K Parfums around 2018, though one source (Parfumo) references 2017 as the founding year. The brand emerged after she spent more than twenty years composing fragrances for major luxury houses through her work at Givaudan. Her decision to launch her own house followed years of international travel that accumulated into what she describes as a library of sensory experiences. She founded Ella K with Olivier Galliardi as her partner, creating a structure that allowed her to pursue personal creative vision outside the constraints of corporate fragrance development. The name Ella K reportedly honors two pioneering women: Ella K (also spelled Ella Kha), an early twentieth-century explorer whose travels across Asia and Africa became a reference point for Constant's own expeditions, and a nod to the abbreviated format of her own name. The brand's identity centers on the spirit of female exploration, drawing parallels between the psychological distance covered by travelers and the emotional territory a fragrance can map. Each release in the collection corresponds to a location Constant has visited, a landscape she has experienced first-hand, or a figure from travel history who has shaped her understanding of movement and discovery. Ella K operates from the conviction that fragrance is a form of geographic and emotional cartography. Constant draws on her experience as a widely traveled perfumer to construct scents that function as olfactory records of place and memory.
