The beginning
Donna Karan expanded her layering philosophy into the Essence collection, fragrance as building block, not destination. The idea: individual notes designed to stand alone or layer together, creating something personal. Jasmine was the cornerstone. Not jasmine as idea, or jasmine as fantasy, jasmine as material. The kind you'd find on a Tuesday morning, petals still damp, stems snapping clean. The Essence line never pretended to complexity. It wanted something else: honesty in a bottle.
