The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
The Be Delicious line needed a sequel that didn't feel like a retread. In 2010, DKNY introduced Golden, not green, not red, but the specific honey-gold of the variety itself. The original Be Delicious had established itself as a crisp, fresh fragrance. Golden Delicious took that concept and let it ripen. The result was warmer, more opulent, and just as wearable. Lara Stone fronted the campaign. The gold bottle, gold liquid, gold cap said everything about what was inside: this wasn't a fragrance for people who wanted to disappear. The scent opens with bright apple and mirabelle plum, a sweet-tart combination that immediately signals a departure from the greener original.
The note structure is built around apple, florals, and woods. What makes it work is the layering. Mirabelle plum sits between the top and heart, adding a sweet-tart dimension that keeps the apple from going flat. The white rose doesn't compete with the lily of the valley, they coexist, the way they might in a well-tended garden rather than a perfumer's theoretical accord. Then sandalwood arrives quietly, holding the composition together. Teakwood adds body without weight. The woods slow the evaporation, giving the fragrance its staying power.
The evolution
The opening announces itself immediately, bright, fruity, almost immediately sweet. The mirabelle plum shows up in the first five minutes, adding a jammy quality that distinguishes this from the greener original. Then, around the thirty-minute mark, the white florals take over. Lily of the valley stays close to the skin; the vanilla orchid lifts it slightly. The apple doesn't disappear, it softens, becoming more suggestion than statement. By hour two, sandalwood and musk move into the foreground. The drydown is skin-close, warm, and lingers on fabric. The fragrance leaves a subtle trace on clothing that speaks to its composition. As the hours pass, the scent evolves, with the woody notes providing a soft backdrop that keeps the florals present without overwhelming.
Cultural impact
Golden Delicious occupies a specific space in the Be Delicious lineage: the warmer, more opulent counterpoint to the original's crispness. It appeals to wearers who want the brand's urban energy but prefer something with a different character. The fragrance stands apart from the original while maintaining the house's signature approachability. This
