The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Deconstructing Eden's perfume writer Toni Sinclair crafted Leo as part of the brand's Zodiac Collection, a range that translates celestial signs into wearable compositions. Leo, ruled by the sun in traditional astrology, called for a fragrance built on warmth and light rather than shadow or mystery. Toni drew from materials like amber, benzoin, blond tobacco absolute, frankincense, honey, liatris spicata, myrrh, spices, and Virginia cedar to bottle that confident, almost theatrical feeling the sign evokes for many wearers.
The blend leans into materials that read solar and opulent: a honeyed opening for the first radiance, benzoin and frankincense for the regal mid-stage, and a base of amber, blond tobacco absolute, myrrh, and Virginia cedar with liatris spicata tying everything together. There is no floral and fruity bravado here, and no bright, aquatic edge; Leo stays warm and present from the first spritz to the final drydown, the brief the zodiac line set out to hit.
The evolution
Since joining the Deconstructing Eden catalog, Leo has remained a fixture among fans of warm, amber-forward compositions. Wearers often describe it as a layer of scent, a cold-weather signature, or a cozy evening fragrance. The formula has remained largely intact across batches, though Toni has tweaked over the years to keep the scent gentle, not too strong, leaving it perfectly balanced for anyone who wants something soothing and warm, simple, easy to wear, all day.
Cultural impact
Leo joined the perfumery conversation at a moment when smaller perfume houses were reshaping how fragrance buyers thought about personality-driven scent. Rather than chasing the latest mainstream launches, Deconstructing Eden leaned into character, and Leo became a quiet ambassador for that approach. Fans of astrology-led perfume wardrobes often cite Leo as a benchmark for how a zodiac fragrance can feel specific without becoming a novelty, with pieces written for perfume fans who know their way around Reddit fragrance communities, indie perfume Discords, and creators who focus on affordable houses worth buying.
