Heritage
A house, in its own words
Cinq Mondes was established in Paris by Jean-Louis Poiroux, a beauty industry entrepreneur whose interest in global wellness traditions led him to travel extensively. His research took him across five continents in search of ancestral beauty secrets used by different cultures. These journeys became the foundation for a product philosophy grounded in ethnobotany and traditional cosmetic rituals, ranging from North African hammams to Southeast Asian massage techniques. The brand's fragrance line emerged from this broader wellness identity, with its earliest documented perfume launch dating to 2005 (Eau Égyptienne, composed by Olivia Giacobetti) and additional compositions following in 2007 and 2008. Rather than positioning itself as a standalone perfume house, Cinq Mondes has consistently presented its scented products as aromatic extensions of its spa heritage, designed for use on body, hair, and linens as part of a broader sensory ritual. The brand maintains its headquarters in Paris and distributes internationally, with a presence in French spas and select markets abroad. Cinq Mondes approaches fragrance as an extension of wellness rather than as a standalone olfactory statement. Each composition in the portfolio is conceived to evoke a specific cultural tradition or geographic origin, drawing on the same ancestral beauty rituals that inform the brand's skincare line. The scents are designed to be versatile, usable as body mists, hair fragrances, or pillow sprays, blurring the line between perfumery and aromatherapy. This dual-purpose philosophy reflects Poiroux's broader vision: beauty rituals as holistic experiences engaging multiple senses. The brand favors natural formulations built around essential oils and botanical extracts, aligning its fragrance philosophy with the clean, plant-based approach that defines its parent skincare line.
