The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
New York Forever Limited Edition arrived in 2023 to mark Bond No. 9's 20th anniversary, two decades of translating the city's neighborhoods into scent. Perfumer Domitille Michalon Bertier built this one around the idea of legacy. Not a single borough or landmark this time, but the entire arc of the brand's relationship with New York, expressed through Indonesian patchouli oil, dewy moss, and a honeyed amber accord that the house calls liquid gold. It appeared in Vogue Magazine as a fall release, and the collector's bottle made it a limited proposition from the start.
The combination of Indonesian patchouli oil and dewy moss is the structural anchor. Patchouli gives depth and that slightly earthy, meditative quality; moss adds a green, atmospheric nuance that evokes damp autumn air rather than dry forest floor. Honeyed amber sits in the middle, warm, golden, sweet without being sugary, while labdanum and musk ground everything into something that wears close to the skin rather than projecting loudly. Vanilla smooths the edges. Cinnamon bark opens sharp, then fades. The result is a fragrance that smells like a specific moment: late afternoon in fall, when the light goes amber and the city exhales.
The evolution
The opening announces itself quickly, cinnamon bark that reads warm and sharp, almost like mulled cider. Within twenty minutes, the Indonesian patchouli and vanilla take over, softening the spice into something rounder, sweeter, more nostalgic. This is the heart of the fragrance: honeyed amber and patchouli that feel cozy rather than confrontational. The drydown takes its time. Honey, labdanum, and moss settle in close to the skin, creating a warm, earthy trail that lingers for hours without ever becoming heavy. On most skin types, expect the full arc to run six to eight hours, with the base notes carrying the last two to three hours as an intimate drydown that stays close rather than projecting.
Cultural impact
New York Forever Limited Edition appeared in Vogue Magazine as part of the brand's 20th anniversary coverage, positioning it as a collector's proposition alongside the Swarovski-adorned special editions the house is known for. The fragrance occupies a specific niche: warm, honeyed Oriental gourmand for fall, leaning into nostalgia and intimacy rather than bold projection. It's the kind of fragrance that rewards someone who already knows what they want, and makes others wish they'd found it sooner.
