    JoAnne Bassett

JoAnne Bassett grew up on a modest farm in southern Minnesota, where the scent of fresh hay and wildflowers first taught her to listen to the air. After a decade as a stock broker on the West Coast, she answered an inner call and launched her first perfume venture in 1993. That year she introduced Custom Couture Perfumes, a line that blended personal stories with hand‑selected botanicals. Over the next thirty years she founded Bassett Aromatherapy, AromaWorld, Pleasures, and the JoAnne brand, each one expanding her reach from boutique boutiques to workshops across more than forty states. Her work earned a reputation for treating fragrance as a form of emotional and spiritual care, especially for women seeking confidence and comfort. In recent months she announced her retirement, describing the closure of her vault as the end of an era she began with a single spark of Divine Light.

    How JoAnne composes

Bassett favors all‑natural essential oils, absolutes, and tinctures harvested from farms she trusts. She writes each composition on a digital ledger, treating the recipe like a piece of code that can be refined and personalized. Her signature technique, which she calls Royal Alchemy, layers base notes of cedar, sandalwood, or amber before weaving in heart accords of rose, jasmine, or spice. She caps each creation with a light veil of citrus or herbal top notes that brighten the blend. In addition to bespoke fragrances, she designs DIY kits that guide novices through the same disciplined process she uses in her studio.

    Philosophy

    What drives JoAnne

Bassett views perfume as a conduit for inner balance. She codes each formula with what she calls Divine Light, a practice that aligns scent with intention. Her goal is to give women emotional and spiritual support, using aromas that soothe, uplift, or empower. She believes that natural ingredients carry their own stories, and that a well‑crafted perfume can echo a wearer’s personal narrative. This belief drives every batch, from the first drop of essential oil to the final seal, ensuring each bottle feels like a quiet ritual rather than a commercial product.
