Heritage
A house, in its own words
JoAnne Bassett launched her first perfume venture in 1993, describing the effort as a series of custom couture fragrances for private clients. In the mid‑1990s she expanded into private‑label natural product lines for spas, a move that introduced her botanical approach to a broader wellness market. By 2005 she released two early signatures, Rich Leather and Sacred Incense, both built on vintage essential oils sourced from remote growers. Over the next decade she added a series of seasonal releases—Timeless, Enchant Parfum, Luscious Roses and Opulence—each anchored in a single botanical theme. Travel became a core part of her research; she reports journeys to more than 40 countries to locate rare absolutes and vintage oils that are no longer produced at scale. In 2014 she introduced Sybarite, a fragrance that blended Middle Eastern oud with Western rose accords, highlighting her willingness to bridge cultural scent vocabularies. The 2016 launch of Sacred 333 Elixir marked a shift toward more spiritually framed products, a line she describes as “Royal Alchemy.” In 2023 Bassett released a Make‑Your‑Own Natural Perfume kit, inviting enthusiasts to step into the formulation process. The following year she announced her retirement on Instagram, stating that she would close the vault of her creations and focus on mentorship. Throughout more than three decades, Bassett has maintained a small‑scale production model, limiting each release to a few hundred bottles to preserve quality and exclusivity. Bassett frames her work as a dialogue between plant chemistry and personal intention. She believes that essential oils carry energetic signatures that can support emotional balance, a view she articulates in workshops and social media posts. Her creative process begins with a “coding” phase, where she records intuitive impressions alongside the physical properties of each raw material. She then applies what she calls “Royal Alchemy,” a ritual that blends precise measurements with a moment of focused intention. The brand avoids synthetic aroma chemicals, insisting that natural absolutes and essential oils provide sufficient depth for modern perfumery. Sustainability informs ingredient selection; she prefers suppliers who practice organic farming, wild‑harvest stewardship and fair‑trade labor. Transparency is another pillar: each fragrance label lists the botanical source, country of origin and extraction method, allowing consumers to trace the scent back to its field. Bassett also emphasizes education, offering a DIY kit and online tutorials that demystify the art of blending natural perfume.
