Andy Tauer built his first fragrance empire the way few would dare, without formal training, without a legacy house behind him, and without anyone telling him it could not be done. Born in 1964 in a medieval Swiss village of just 400 residents perched on the banks of the Rhine, Tauer spent his early years surrounded by stone walls, river air, and the honest smells of rural life. He trained as a chemist and worked in IT, but a transformative moment arrived before a safari to Kenya when an Amazon recommendation landed Mandy Aftel's book in his hands. He read it among blooming frangipani trees in Africa, and returned home with a singular new purpose. What began as a creative outlet and a quiet rebellion against office life grew until his second perfume, L'Air du Désert Marocain, earned a rare five-star review from critics Luca Turin and Tania Sanchez. Suddenly, the hobby had a name, a global audience, and an open blog where Tauer invited the world behind the curtain of his Zurich studio. More than two decades later, he remains that rarest of creatures in perfumery, a self-taught artisan who refuses to compromise, and who still answers his own emails.

His approach is deliberately anti-industrial, every bottle still handcrafted in small batches from his Swiss studio, the studio he has operated as a one-man show since founding the house in 2005.
